Tottenham should consider hijacking reported interest in Thomas Partey

Tottenham could certainly do with some extra steel in their midfield ahead of next season and should be on the lookout for potential targets.

One man that should crop up on their radar is Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey, who recently helped the Spanish club knock Liverpool out of the Champions League with a win at Anfield.

The 26-year-old massively impressed in the centre of the park for the La Liga outfit against Liverpool, as he kept in simple in possession and was a brick wall in front of his defence.

According to Libertad Digital, Arsenal are prepared to pay Partey’s low release clause of £44million in the summer.

But Spurs should hijack interest from their North London club and put him on their radar.

Partey is a defensive midfielder that looks tailor-made for the Premier League with his raw power and he’s shown he can cut it on the elite stage with Atletico against big opponents.

The Ghana international can be a decent threat when he goes forward, but ultimately his strengths lie in breaking up play and interceptions.

There could be a comparison made between Partey and ex-Spurs midfielder Victor Wanyama, who only recently completed a move away to Montreal Impact.

Wanyama was an aggressive defensive midfielder that was immense for Spurs during his first season when he joined in 2016 and a rock in front of the backline that allowed others to play, something that Partey does in the Atletico side right now.
