Tottenham should consider handing academy prospect Maxwell Statham a contract due to the high demand surfacing for him.

According to the Mirror, Championship flyers Norwich City are leading the chase to try snap up the colossus defender due to the fact his current deal expires at the end of the season.

It is understood that Football League Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Sunderland are also monitoring the 18-year-old’s situation.

Statham has been called up to the first-team training recently to make up the numbers and is surely someone that senior manager Mauricio Pochettino will be fully aware of.

Spurs should be prompted into acting over the centre-back and handing him a senior contract, with a view to a loan next year could be a smart decision.

Statham is a highly-rated defender from the youth ranks and the queue of interest in him suggests he’s got potential.
