Tottenham should consider £50m-rated Sevilla defender Jules Kounde

If there is one position above any Tottenham should aim to strengthen for next season, then it has to be the centre-back area.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho currently has a plethora of options for the heart of his defence, but the problem is he can’t find an outstanding pairing he can trust, and he continues to rotate as a result.

Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga are all centre-halves that have played in various parts of this season.

The north London club do need to fix the heart of defence to become a side competing for the top silverware.

Various reports suggest Spurs could be chasing a new centre-back in the summer.

Calciomercato have linked them with Fiorentina’s defender Nikola Milenkovic this month.

Additionally, the Mirror reported last week that Spurs had an interest in Southampton’s centre-half Jannik Vestergaard.

If Spurs can find the financial power to spend in the summer, they should go all out to land an elite top centre-back rather than one from the mid-tier bracket.

One player that would be a massive upgrade in the Spurs backline is Jules Kounde.

According to the Sun, Manchester United are interested in the French defender’s signature due to his eye-catching performance for Spanish La Liga club Sevilla.

The report explains that Sevilla have lowered their previous £70million asking price for him to £50million.

Spurs reportedly splashed out £42million (BBC) to sign Sanchez back in 2017, which is why they shouldn’t hesitate over throwing their name into the hat for Sevilla’s rising star.

Kounde is regarded as one of the best young upcoming talents across Europe.

He’s a centre-back with great pace, power and ball-playing abilities, who looks like he’s tailor-made for the Premier League.

His reported £50million valuation looks an absolute steal in this current market, and the Spurs hierarchy need to turn their attention to the Sevilla talent to find someone that would strengthen a weak area.
