West Bromwich Albion are looking to sell winger Oliver Burke with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly interested.
According to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday – via HITC Sport – the Scotland international is a target for Spurs and Newcastle United.
The Baggies are aiming to raise funds to make a move for Bradley Dack. And selling Burke would enable them to upgrade in that department.
But this would be a mistake by Spurs. Burke’s career seems to be going backwards and he is surviving on reputation at the moment.
After coming through the ranks at Nottingham Forest, he was a man in-demand. But after a poor spell at Red Bull Leipzig and a less-than-impressive stint with West Brom, why would Spurs want him?
Tottenham have some serious talent in their attacking midfield regions. Christian Eriksen is the standout player in that department, with the likes of Dele Alli, Son Heung-Min and Lucas Moura all impressing.
Erik Lamela is hitting some form as well so Spurs’ interest in Burke is baffling.
The 21-year-old has managed just 14 minutes of league action in the Championship this season and his career is stagnating.
Burke cost West Brom £15m and they are probably looking to recoup most of that, if not all and more.
He is simply not worth that outlay, until he can prove otherwise in the lower leagues.
