Report: Tottenham set to complete deal for former Arsenal player

Tottenham Hotspur might have lost out against Chelsea today but in terms of the transfer market, the wheels are still firmly in motion.

According to The Athletic, Spurs are set to beat a host of clubs to the signing of Lewes starlet, Ollie Tanner, who has been tracked by a number of Premier League clubs this winter. Tottenham’s bid appears to have beaten off Brighton, with The Athletic claiming the Seagulls were initially best placed to land the 19-year-old.

It’s claimed Tottenham have made a bid for the winger this weekend which is to be accepted by Lewes. Personal terms won’t be an issue and the youngster will be jumping at the opportunity to join a PL club. It is claimed Brighton were going to immediately loan Tanner back to Lewes, but it remains to be seen if Spurs will offer the same.

Tanner has been in superb form for Lewes this season and has been watched by as many as 14 clubs, according to various reports in recent weeks. A former Arsenal schoolboy, Tanner will no doubt be itching to get going.

On the surface, it seems that Spurs are getting their hands on a serious talent.

TBR’s View: A Signing For Tottenham…But Not The One Fans Want

This is all well and good. Signing a young player who has bags of potential is always nice for fans to see.

But let’s be honest, this isn’t the ‘signing’ Tottenham supporters wanted to see. They want players for the first-team here and now. So while landing Tanner is a good move for the future, it’s just not the priority right now.

Today’s loss to Chelsea has once again highlighted the gulf in quality between Spurs and the rest. Conte has done a good job so far since taking over. But right now, he needs help from the board and a top four spot can be theirs.
