Report: Conte to drop £25m man for Tottenham v Leeds with key duo returning

Tottenham are set to face Leeds United today in what many feel is a must-win game for Antonio Conte’s side before the World Cup break.

Spurs come into the game on the back of a patchy run of form. Despite winning in Marseille to go through in the Champions League and coming back from the brink against Bournemouth, the last two games have ended in defeat.

A strong looking side was beaten by Nottingham Forest in midweek too in the League Cup. That result and performance worried some at Tottenham. It means another chance of a trophy has gone for another year.

However, today is a chance for Tottenham to put things right. And according to The Evening Standard, Conte is set to make some changes to his XI as he seeks a big win before signing off for six weeks.

Writing up their predicted XI and squad news for Spurs v Leeds, The Evening Standard reports how new signing, Yves Bissouma, can expect to be dropped to the bench. The summer signing has played the last few games. But with the likes of Kulusevski and Richarlison back, Conte is set to revert to his favoured duo of Bentancur and Hojbjerg.

Bissouma has struggled to really get going since arriving for around £25m plus add-ons in the summer.

TBR’s View: Tottenham need Bentancur and Hojbjerg masterclass against Leeds

Conte has experimented with a more rigid three in the middle in recent weeks and it’s not quite worked as well as the Hojbjerg and Bentancur combination.

For this game with Leeds, Conte needs his best pairing and that is the aforementioned duo. Bissouma, of course, will be disappointed. But he does need to do more and he can’t really complain at being dropped.

Tottenham simply have to win today. If they don’t there’ll be some ill-feeling among Spurs fans going into the World Cup.
