Report: Tottenham will sign a ‘world class’ player today, official announcement due shortly

Tottenham are set to announce the signing of Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet today, according to a report from Sport.

Reports have gathered pace over the last week or so about Lenglet sealing a move to Spurs and there was talk yesterday that he was in London ready to complete the final stages of his move. And according to Sport, those final details, including a medical, have now taken place.

With that, it’s claimed an announcement will come later on today from Spurs on Lenglet, as Antonio Conte gets yet another player in his ranks. The Frenchman, who has found life tough at Barcelona, is likely to join Tottenham on loan for the initial period.

Described as a ‘world-class‘ operator by Didier Deschamps, Lenglet will give Conte options and cover at the back. Of course, Spurs might not be done quite yet, with Fabio Paratici going all out to give Conte the best squad possible.

Lenglet will join fellow summer recruits Forster, Perisic, Bissouma, and Richarlison as Tottenham newbies. The defender will hope to challenge Ben Davies for a starting spot, with Eric Dier and Cristian Romero likely to keep their places.

Tottenham are really going for it, aren’t they? Lenglet might have struggled with Barca but he is a player of genuine quality who can improve this Spurs squad.

For Spurs, it’s been a hectic summer but they are really doing well in getting deals over the line. They’ve gone from nearly men, to a team who simply get their business sorted out.

In terms of Lenglet, he brings quality, versatility, and experience to the club. A player with a point to prove, Lenglet will no doubt help this Spurs squad achieve its goals this coming season.
