Tottenham Hotspur are set to be in the transfer market for a player or two during January. Boss Jose Mourinho will want to make his own mark on his squad and several links are emerging.
Spurs are six points away from a Champions League place and surely the new boss will relish the chance to make an addition or two.
It remains to be seen whether the window is to prove fruitful. One man who has been linked is Norwich wide player Todd Cantwell.
According to the Daily Mail, the 21-year-old is a £30 million target for Mourinho who will rival Manchester United for his signature.
Cantwell would clearly be added to the ranks as one for the future. His arrival could also offer some indication as to where Mourinho sees Ryan Sessegnon.
Surely if the Norwich man signs if would push Sessegnon down the pecking order on the flank and that could mean a long-term stint at left-back.
Danny Rose and Ben Davies are currently at the club but neither are really viewed as boasting real quality.
Sessegnon, however, is regarded as a really bright prospect. The 19-year-old has earned plenty of game time under Mourinho and actually operated at left-back against Southampton.
His versatility will be a great attribute but it seems likely that if Cantwell signs, Sessegnon’s days of playing further forward will probably be infrequent.
It would represent an exciting time for Tottenham if they landed Cantwell.
He has enjoyed a quality first season in the Premier League and moving to a big club looks obvious at some point.
For Sessegnon, he will just be happy to make his mark on the team.
He was lethal going forward for Fulham in the Championship but his Premier League future does look more fruitful at left-back.
The £25 million (BBC) man could prove a tremendous piece of business and adding Cantwell could give Spurs a very exciting left-hand side.
