Tottenham could be set to announce their first signing of the summer before the end of the week, with Southampton goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga close to a move according to reports from The Sun.
It is thought that boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen on having competition amongst his back-up goalkeepers, and at the low price of £2million he’s willing to give the 25-year-old a shot in London.
The Argentine has reportedly always been impressed by Gazzaniga following their time spent together at Southampton a few years back and believes he can be a more than able number two.
The Southampton ‘keeper spent last season out on-loan at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano, getting regular game-time under his belt, making 22 appearances as they finished comfortably in mid-table.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of highly-exciting Schalke midfielder Max Meyer after he admitted there is a possibility of him leaving Germany this summer.
The 21-year-old German international only has a year left on his current contract at the Bundesliga side but speculation of a move away has been amplified after he has rejected a new deal at the club.
In an interview with German outlet Bild, Meyer said: “I declined the offer because I was not satisfied with my personal situation. I just saw no chance to develop. It would have been the wrong step, however, because the overall situation has changed.
“I am completely open on my future. Let’s see what happens.
The Sun had claimed in late June that Tottenham were monitoring Meyer’s situation ahead of a potential summer swoop, and it now seems that the door is wide open should they want to pounce.
Lastly, former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has said that the north London side are struggling to make any signings this summer because they can’t improve on their existing squad.
The recently appointed Birmingham City boss, who managed Spurs between 2008-2012 and led them to the Champions League quarter-finals, has claimed that there’s no room for new additions.
Speaking to talkSPORT this morning, Redknapp said: “Poch said the other day he tried to sign [Alvaro] Morata and he said: ‘well, where am I going to play? You have got Harry Kane’.
“It is a difficult team to get into. They are looking for some reserve players really.
“Their starting 11 is the best in the country. I still wouldn’t swap them for anyone else.”
Tottenham are the only team in the Premier League yet to make a signing this summer, with the only movement of real note coming with Kyle Walker’s £50million switch to rivals Manchester City.
