According to reports from the Mirror, Southampton have allegedly begun their interest in Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer – but aren’t prepared to meet their £20 million price.
It’s believed that the North London outfit are prepared to let the Austrian centre-back leave White Hart Lane after failing to stake claims for a regular starting berth and the Saints are showing interest.
Yet the £20 million price tag on the 24-year-old’s head has stalled the South Coast side from making a formal offer as of yet, with it thought that they can get him for less.
Wimmer – who only managed three Premier League starts last season under boss Mauricio Pochettino – would be utilised as a long-term replacement for Jose Fonte, who left back in January.
Meanwhile, Italian reports are now suggesting that Tottenham are set to miss out on 25-year-old Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri after Roma have stolen a march ahead of a summer move to Italy.
The Daily Mail had claimed just last week that Spurs had approached the French side and enquired about signing the Ivorian international, but fresh news suggests that Roma have stolen a march.
However, RMC Sport have now alleged that Seri’s agent was seen in Rome on Sunday to close the deal – with it further announced this morning that the Italian outfit have agreed a five-year contract.
Now it seems that it’s just a case of Nice and Roma coming to an official agreement on a price for Seri for a move to happen – supposedly just over £30 million – much to Tottenham’s disappointment.
Seri made 34 appearances for Nice in the league in the season just gone, scoring seven times and earning nine assists, as his side ran both Monaco and PSG close in the race for the Ligue One title.
Lastly, former Chelsea man Jason Cundy has praised the impact that Harry Kane has had since breaking through at White Hart Lane, labelling him as ‘twice the player’ that Romelu Lukaku is.
The Evening Standard broke the news at the start of June that Chelsea have made the young Belgian striker their main priority this summer – but Cundy believes Kane is a better striker.
Talking to talkSPORT radio, the London news outlet and Goal.com report that he said:
“If you are giving me the option to buy either one of those players, I’d take Kane every single day of the week over Lukaku.
“All-round, the value he’s going to bring, because of what he can do, the player he’s going to turn into. I have faith in my judgment.
“Harry Kane is twice the player Lukaku is – based on my eyes, based on my knowledge, based on what I see. He’s twice the player. He can hold the ball up with his back to goal and Lukaku can’t.”
The 23-year-old won the Premier League’s Golden Boot for the second consecutive year as Tottenham narrowly fell short to Chelsea in the title race, scoring 29 goals to Lukaku’s tally of 25.
