According to fresh reports coming from The Sun on Tuesday morning, Manchester United have allegedly given up hope of securing a deal for Tottenham and England man Eric Dier this summer.
The Mirror had claimed, yesterday, that Jose Mourinho was prepared to have one last attempt to bring the 23-year-old to Old Trafford, offering £60 million, but speculation of a bid has been played down.
It is thought that representatives of the Manchester side have contacted the north London side recently to enquire about Dier’s availability only to be told that the midfielder isn’t going anywhere.
Sources close to the Sun understand that there will be no more players leaving White Hart Lane this summer – unless Mauricio Pochettino allows them to go – meaning that United will miss out on Dier.
The report claims that Mourinho will now turn his full attention to securing Chelsea defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic, with the Portuguese boss looking for a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick.
In other news, Tottenham announced on their official website earlier today that highly-rated defender Kieran Trippier has signed a new long-term deal at the club.
It is understood that the 26-year-old right-back – who was signed from fellow top-flight outfit Burnley in 2015 for £3.5 million – has penned an extension that will see him remain at White Hart Lane until 2022.
Trippier put in a string of impressive performances during the second-half of last season, being selected ahead of Walker for the north London derby and FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea.
He made 12 Premier League appearances for Tottenham last season, contributing five assists – resulting in his debut England call-up against France – and he looks set to be the first-choice right-back this year.
Lastly, Argentinian side Estudiantes have reportedly given Tottenham two demands that need to be met before they allow young defender Juan Foyth to leave.
According to reports in The Times, Foyth’s current employers want to ensure that a sell-on clause is inserted in any contract drawn up as well as wanting him to return for a six-month loan.
The 19-year-old could become Tottenham’s first arrival of the summer should the two clubs finalise terms for a move, with Estudiantes wanting £8.5 million for the promising centre-back.
It is understood that representatives of the north London club held talks with Foyth’s agent and Estudiantes president – ex-Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron – in the capital last week.
