Tottenham round-up: Leicester midfielder update; rivals still chasing Dier; Onomah swap deal

According to reports in the Mirror today, Tottenham target and Leicester City midfielder Demarai Gray has allegedly told boss Craig Shakespeare he needs assurances over first-team action next year.

The report claims that the 21-year-old winger – who has caught the attention of Premier League big boys Liverpool and Tottenham this summer – is looking for reassurance or he might seek a new club.

It is understood by unnamed sources close to the Foxes that Gray believes he deserves far more regular action than he received last season, where he only made nine starts in the Premier League.

And with the future of Riyad Mahrez laying elsewhere after he handed in a transfer request just weeks after the end of the season, Gray wants to make sure he’s guaranteed football next season.

The winger starred as England lost out to Germany on penalties in the recent European Under-21 Championships in Poland, scoring twice in the competition.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph has claimed this morning that Manchester United are continuing with their pursuit of Tottenham and England midfielder Eric Dier.

With Jose Mourinho’s side set to steal Everton’s Romelu Lukaku from under the noses of his former club Chelsea in a £75 million hijack – as per the Telegraph – it is unlikely the Blues will sell Nemanja Matic to them.

And the potential signing of the big Belgian striker would leave a potential re-union between Matic and Mourinho – as reported by the Telegraph, too – unlikely to happen, with tensions rising with Chelsea.

It is understood that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has already rejected a bid for Dier this summer, unwilling to part with key first team players, but United haven’t given up the chase just yet.

The 23-year-old has always been a big priority for Mourinho since he arrived at Old Trafford last summer and the report claims that negotiations have been taking place for a while over the switch.

While Dier is content with his role at White Hart Lane – and whilst Levy has no intention of selling to rival clubs – United have the potential to almost double his current salary of £75,000-a-week.

The same report also claims that Tottenham are upping their interest in Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson after his exceptional finish to the season.

The 23-year-old centre-back played an influential role in helping the Swans avoid relegation and alerted the interest of England’s top sides – and Spurs are keen on snapping him up this summer.

The Telegraph believe that a £30 million bid has already been rejected for the England Under-21 international, with Swansea boss Paul Clement keen on keeping his best players for another year.

But it is understood that Mauricio Pochettino is now considering utilising young midfielder Josh Onomah as part of the deal, offering him to the Welsh side on a year-long loan to bring Mawson in.
