According to reports in The Sun, Manchester City will have to meet the £50 million price tag put in place by Mauricio Pochettino if they want to sign defender Kyle Walker over the summer window.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been linked with the Tottenham right-back for a while now, and new reports allege that the 26-year-old won’t be leaving White Hart Lane for anything less than the asking price.
Kieran Trippier started the North London derby against Arsenal, adding fuel to the fire that Walker is on his way out of London this summer, with Manchester the most likely destination of a move.
Walker signed a new five-year deal at Tottenham back in November, worth a reported £75,000-a-week, but it’s believed that the Spurs defender is looking for a higher salary elsewhere.
Guardiola’s desire to bring in young, homegrown English talent, combined with City’s reported willingness to pay £150,000-a-week could mean that Walker ends up at the Etihad for next season.
At the other end of the pitch, reports in Spain are claiming that Tottenham are set to join the race to sign highly-rated Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata over the summer transfer window.
Spanish news outlet AS have reported that Spurs are one of eight clubs interested in signing the Spaniard once the season ends, but the London club would need to find £55 million to secure him.
With interest coming from England, Germany and Italy, it’s looking likely that Morata’s future is away from the Bernabeu after a frustrating season of limited opportunities on the field.
The report claims that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane promised him a prevalent role in the first team, but instead Morata has been limited to just 12 starts in 34 La Liga matches this season.
The 24-year-old has still managed 13 league goals, however, and has scored three times in seven Champions League appearances – including a crucial away goal against Napoli in the last 16.
Meanwhile, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has vowed that his side can put psychological pressure on leaders Chelsea after his side scored twice in 146 seconds to beat Arsenal 2-0 on Sunday.
Second-half goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane saw off their North London rivals and ensures that Tottenham will finish above the Gunners in the Premier League table for the first time since 1995.
Talking to BBC Sport after the match, Pochettino said:
“We are in the race and the gap is back to four points. We have to be focused now. We have another big game against West Ham on Friday, another difficult derby.
“That could be a chance to put psychological pressure on Chelsea. We play before them and, if we win, we will see what happens when Chelsea play Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge on Monday.”
After watching Chelsea beat Everton prior to kick-off at White Hart Lane on Sunday, Tottenham will have the chance to close the gap to just one point when they travel to West Ham on Friday evening.
