According to reports in the Mirror this morning, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has allegedly upped his interest in signing young Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth over the summer.

With the north London side yet to delve into their pockets yet this summer it is understood that Pochettino has targeted his fellow Argentine in a deal that could be worth a reported fee of £10 million.

The 19-year-old has impressed in South America over the past year and caught the eye during Argentina’s Under-20 World Cup campaign last month – and Spurs could be set to pounce quickly.

Speaking a few weeks ago, the Mirror reports that Foyth said: “I would like to play in Europe, and if something comes up that convinces me and the club then I will go. My agent never told me that an offer had arrived from Zenit. I would not go to Russia right now.

“If I do go it is not because I want to, but rather to help the club out economically.”

Foyth’s agent is ex-Manchester United and Argentina midfielder Juan Sebastien Veron and it is understood that he is already poised to begin talks with Tottenham ahead of a switch to London.

In other news, reports have claimed that Swansea City have put a mammoth £50 million price tag onto the head of Icelandic midfield maestro Gylfi Sigurdsson after receiving interest from top-flight sides.

BBC Sport claim that the Swans have already rejected a £40 million bid from Leicester City for the influential 27-year-old, and it is understood that they won’t entertain offers of less than £50 million.

This will come as a blow for Tottenham, just two months after the Evening Standard reported that Pochettino was interested in re-signing Sigurdsson after his underwhelming first spell at Spurs.

Sigurdsson made 58 Premier League appearances for Tottenham during his three-year spell at White Hart Lane, scoring eight times, but it’s thought that they wouldn’t be willing to meet the new £50 million valuation.

Away from transfer speculation, Tottenham have played down talks of a takeover of the club and categorically denied that they are currently undergoing discussions.

Reports in the Sunday Times had claimed that American organisation Iconiq Capital – backed by Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg – were considering making a £1bn offer to out-right own the club.

But a statement on Tottenham’s official website dismissed these claims, saying: “The Club announced on 31 May 2017 the completion of the bank debt financing for the new stadium with a consortium of banks involving Bank of America Merrill Lynch International Limited, Goldman Sachs Bank USA and HSBC Bank plc.

“The Board believes this was the optimum solution in the interests of fans, employees and shareholders and for the continued development of the Club.

“The Board is not in any discussions relating to a takeover offer for the Club.

Tottenham will play their football at Wembley Stadium next season after demolition of White Hart Lane began at the end of the 2016/17 season, with a new 61,000-seater stadium to be built there.
