According to reports coming from the Mirror on Tuesday morning, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho isn’t giving up on Tottenham’s Eric Dier just yet as he considers a further offer of £60 million.
Despite the Daily Mail claiming just a few days ago that the 23-year-old is not up for sale for any price this summer, Mourinho’s desire to bring Dier to Old Trafford could see him increase his bids.
It is thought that Mourinho had initially believed that an offer in the region of £40 million would have been enough to persuade Tottenham into selling, but chairman Daniel Levy has remained stubborn.
Yet the north London club’s stance hasn’t deterred the United boss from continuing his pursuit of the England international, with Mourinho seeing Dier as a long-term successor for Michael Carrick.
The report claims that Tottenham’s versatile midfielder is keen on the switch himself – despite signing a new five-year deal at White Hart Lane last season – and could try and push a deal through.

In other news, reports late on Monday evening have suggested that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino could try and hijack Leicester City’s move for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
The Sun believe that a surprise swoop for the 20-year-old Nigerian could speed up Kyle Walker’s switch in the other direction, with a ‘player-plus-cash’ deal a win-win situation for the two teams.
Sky Sports reported last month that talks had begun for the 27-year-old right-back, but a little further down the line and negotiations have stalled with Tottenham not willing to lower their price.
Spurs are remaining insistent on their £50 million valuation of Walker – a price that is £10 million more than Pep Guardiola’s £40 million offer – and the two clubs are currently in a stalemate.
Iheanacho would no doubt relish the chance to stay at one of the big Premier League sides after struggling for first-team opportunities in Pep Guardiola’s debut season, only managing five starts.
Aside from transfer speculation there was some positive news for Tottenham supporters yesterday as Argentinian midfielder Erik Lamela returned to training for the first time in eight months.
The Standard reports that the 25-year-old is stepping up his battle to be fit in time for the new Premier League season after being side-lined since October.
Since then, Lamela has suffered multiple set-backs – needing surgery on both his left and right hip over the past few months – and at one point it looked like his Tottenham career could well be over.
But Lamela, alongside Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele, Jan Vertonghen and Vincent Janssen, were all back for pre-season training yesterday ahead of their pre-season tour of the United States.
