Tottenham’s hopes of securing the signing of up-and-coming German midfielder Max Meyer have been given a massive boost after reports claim he has been put up for sale by current team Schalke.
German news outlet Bild have alleged that the 21-year-old is allowed to leave the Bundesliga club over the summer as they expect him to turn down offers of a new deal – opening the door for Spurs.
And The Sun suggest that boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen on bringing in Meyer to boost his strength in depth ahead of the new season, where the North London side aim to go one better.
Schalke’s lack of European competition next season could be the clincher between staying and a move to White Hart Lane, with Spurs set to take on the Champions League group stage once again.

The youngster – currently at the Under-21 European Championships with Germany – impressed in an average Schalke outfit last season, making 27 Bundesliga appearances.
Another midfielder that has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while now is out-of-favour Everton man Ross Barkley, but it has been reported this afternoon that Spurs are not rushing into a move.
Sky Sports have claimed that the North London side are prepared to sit and wait for his asking price of around £50 million to drop as the transfer window rumbles on.
It is thought that the Merseyside outfit value him at that mark despite only having one-year left on his contract, and with an extension to this deal looking unlikely after ignoring Ronald Koeman’s ultimatum.
Sky Sports’ sources reveal that Tottenham are happy to play a waiting game for Barkley until a more appropriate price can be negotiated, but they won’t rule out moving for another midfielder.

The 23-year-old England international made 39 appearances for the Toffees last season across all competitions, but fell-out with boss Ronald Koeman at times, being benched for the Swansea defeat.
Meanwhile, reports coming from Italian news outlet Tuttomercato have claimed that Tottenham are currently in the midst of chasing another midfielder to add to their ranks, with Fiorentina’s Matias Vecino lined up.
It is thought that the Serie A side have already been contacted by the North London club to potentially set the wheels in motion ahead of a summer switch to strengthen Pochettino’s squad.
Yet ,a deal for the 25-year-old wouldn’t come cheap, considering that the Uruguayan still has four years left on his Fiorentina contract. This could kill any potential negotiations.
Vecino made 31 Serie A appearances last season as his side narrowly missed out on place in the Europa League, scoring three times and assisting four.
