Tottenham round-up: PSG hijack Argentinian youngster; Kane commits future; Dembele on return from injury

According to reports coming from France early this morning, European giants Paris Saint-Germain are allegedly on the verge of announcing the signing of young Estudiantes centre-back Juan Foyth.

The Mirror had claimed just last week that Tottenham were finalising an £8 million deal for the 19-year-old defender, but, since then, the French side have suddenly become front-runners to sign him.

It is understood – as per Sky Sports last week – that boss Mauricio Pochettino had a late change of heart, deciding that the Argentinian side are asking for too much for such a young, unproven player.

Now, the latest reports from French outlet L’Equipe believe that Foyth’s representatives, namely ex-Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, have arrived in Paris to complete a deal.

Away from transfer news, Tottenham and England forward Harry Kane has whole-heartedly committed his future to White Hart Lane after early summer speculation linked him with a move.

Reports coming from the Mirror this time last month had suggested that Manchester United were lining up a £100 million offer for the 23-year-old, with Jose Mourinho a long-term admirer of Kane.

But in an interview with American news outlet ESPN, over the weekend, the Tottenham striker has insisted that his long-term future lies in London, saying:

“Football for me isn’t about money and I don’t think it’s for a lot of players.

“I’m very much at Tottenham because I love this club and I see it going in a great direction and I feel like we’re one of the best teams in England and in Europe as well – I’m excited for the future ahead.

“I’m a Spurs player and that’s where I want to be for the foreseeable future. I have a great relationship with the manager, the fans, the club here, so there’s no reason to change that.”

Kane – who captained England in the recent draw with rivals Scotland – signed a new five-and-a-half-year deal at Spurs worth £120,000-a-week last December, making him the highest earner at the club.

Meanwhile, midfielder Mousa Dembele has said that he feels like his fitness is improving after making a return from injury during Tottenham’s 4-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain the other day.

The 30-year-old struck an impressive partnership alongside Victor Wanyama in the Spurs midfield last season, but he only started one of the final five Premier League matches after injuring his foot.

Dembele had his left foot operated on following the close of last season but successfully made a return to action on Saturday, managing 60 minutes on the field before making way for Harry Winks.

Talking to ESPN during Tottenham’s pre-season tour of the United States, he said:

“I don’t think there are any footballers playing at 100 percent, without anything wrong. All my career I’ve played with things — this was too much and that’s why I had to do something.

“All through last season I had a bit of pain. But it was always bearable until the end, so I wanted to have an operation. It’s not really on my mind.

“The foot is OK [since the surgery]. In the beginning it was a bit difficult but I’ve a lot of training sessions behind me now and it gets better and better to be honest.”

Tottenham’s next stop on their pre-season tour is a match-up with Roma early on Wednesday morning, before they face the test of Premier League title rivals Manchester City.
