Tottenham have denied reports in France that they have come to an agreement over the transfer of Serge Aurier. L’Equipe claimed that they were one of the three sides to have agreed terms with the right back, alongside Manchester United and Juventus. The Sun report that a new right-back is thought to be top of the agenda for Mauricio Pochettino, but a deal for the PSG player isn’t close.
The 25-year-old has a lot of talent, but his attitude has been a problem at PSG and it is unlikely that he would fit in well with the Tottenham squad. Pochettino looks into the character of players before bringing them to North London and the right-back has a questionable one. The report from L’Equipe could have been placed by the player’s agent as time is running out and he desperately needs a move out of Paris. The link to Spurs is an easy one to make as it is known that they are in the market for a right-back, but it would be a surprise if they did move for Aurier.
Davinson Sanchez is a player much likelier to sign for Tottenham before the window closes. The Evening Standard report that Ajax want a fee close to £40 million if they are to agree to sell the centre-back. Spurs don’t foresee any problems with securing a work permit for the player, despite the 21-year-old having only two international caps for Colombia. The initial fee is likely to be £27 million, but the Dutch club want significant add-ons included in the deal.
This deal certainly looks likely to happen as it is being widely reported by the press. The fee seems high for a player with a relative lack of experience, but Sanchez is seen as one of the best young centre-backs in the game. Pochettino wants to bring in another defensive option after playing with a 3-4-2-1 system regularly last season. The Ajax player is a great fit and could develop an excellent understanding with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld. He remains a raw talent, but this has the potential to be a great deal for the club.
Their efforts are ramping up in the transfer market and the Telegraph report that they have had a bid worth up to £25 million turned down for Ryan Sessegnon. The Fulham teenager is one of the most exciting young players in English football and signed his first professional deal in June. It was important that he signed that contract as it increased his value significantly. The left-back is happy at Craven Cottage and will not try to force a move to Tottenham.
Sessegnon would be a great fit at Tottenham and it is easy to see why they are interested in his services. The teenager impressed in the Championship last season and looked mature beyond his years, as he scored five goals, including a brace against Newcastle. He will play in the Premier League in the future, but he is still only 17-years-old. There is no pressure for him to seek a big move now and it is better for him if he stays at Fulham for regular football. This shows ambition from Spurs, but it will be a difficult deal to do during this window.
