Tottenham right to reject poor man's Heung Min Son in Rodrigo de Paul

Reports from Italy claim that Tottenham have passed up the opportunity to sign Udinese winger Rodrigo de Paul as the club continue to look for a solution to their crisis in attack.

Calciomercato report that Inter Milan could now capitalise given that Mauricio Pochettino’s club failed to move for the Argentina international with the transfer market drawing to a close.

De Paul has scored six goals and provided three assists in 21 games this season, impressing with his direct running style and drawing comparisons to Heung Min Son for his pace and technical ability on the ball.

However, moving for the former Valencia winger would have been out of pure desperation for Tottenham. The 24-year-old would offer an alternative, but certainly not an improvement and is far from the natural centre-forward that the club need.

He has also struggled for consistency throughout his career and Pochettino will know that with a small squad and limited resources, Spurs cannot afford players who do not turn up and contribute on a regular basis.

An attacker is top of Tottenham’s wishlist in the final days of the January transfer window, but it is clear from this report that they won’t enter the market just for the sake of it.
