Tottenham reportedly want to sign ‘unbelievable’ player, now they could come up against him on opening day

Tottenham now know the order of their fixtures for the 2022/23 campaign, Antonio Conte’s first full season in charge.

First up is a home clash with Southampton, which is a 3pm kick off on Saturday 6th August at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There is of course plenty of time for transfer business between now and then, and Spurs and the Saints have done recent deals.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Kyle Walker-Peters swapped between the clubs in the summer of 2020.

Tottenham fixtures 2022/23 throw up early Ward-Prowse meeting

This summer, Tottenham have been linked with Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, who has recently been on international duty with England after the end of the season.

They may find the asking price for the ‘unbelievable‘ midfielder too much, but there is also the potential for another Englishman to go the other way.

Southampton are rumoured to be keen on Harry Winks, who could replace Ward-Prowse if he went to Tottenham or elsewhere this summer.

We wrote earlier this month that Winks could help Spurs land Ward-Prowse during a summer where they have already done some good early business.

By the time of that opening day clash, Ward-Prowse could have swapped clubs and be facing each other in the engine room.

Spurs seem to have other more priority targets than Ward-Prowse right now but what an addition he would be to Conte’s midfield.

And it would be an intriguing dynamic if both men immediately faced their former clubs, although there is plenty of work to be done to get to that point.
