Tottenham reportedly want to sign £17m Brazilian who’s an ‘indispensable leader’ and ‘excels in many things’

With the World Cup in full swing, Tottenham Hotspur have been able to take stock and plan for the second half of the season.

And there’s a good chance that the Spurs hierarchy will want more ahead of the second half of the season.

Tottenham looked like potential dark horses for the Premier League title at the start of the campaign.

However, there have been far too many underwhelming displays and poor results over the past few months.

Tottenham are, of course, still in a great position when they return to action.

Spurs are in the top four of the Premier League and in the Champions League knockout stages.

However, they must do something to ensure they don’t slip further behind after the World Cup.

Tottenham’s defence hasn’t been at its best, so reinforcements at the back could well be on the cards.

And according to Tutto Udinese, Spurs have set their sights on Zebrette colossus Rodrigo Becao.

As well as Tottenham, the likes of Arsenal, Everton and West Ham United are apparently in pursuit too.

A separate Tutto Udinese report claimed that Becao has a price tag of €20million, or around £17million.

‘Significant’

Spurs recently signed Destiny Udogie from Udinese and loaned him back to the Zebrette.

The scouts who were keeping tabs on the Italian seem to have also taken a liking to Becao.

It’s not surprising really, as he’s been a solid defender for his side since joining in 2019.

The 6ft 3in ace has made 111 appearances for Udinese, also registering five goals and three assists.

Becao is currently Udinese’s third-best performing player on average, as per Whoscored.

The 26-year-old has also made more tackles per 90 minutes than anyone in their squad.

While Becao may not be very well known amongst Premier League fans, the Udinese websites often sing his praises.

In September, Mondo Udinese described him as ‘an indispensable leader at the service of (manager Andrea) Sottil.’

He also ‘excels in many things, especially in reading and tackling’, and his ‘growth over the years has been significant.’

Becao certainly seems like a good shout for Tottenham. He’s in his prime years, physically imposing, and has a proven track record in an elite league.

Spurs have already struck gold in terms of signing defenders from Italian clubs in Cristian Romero. Can lightning strike twice?
