Tottenham reportedly want player that said he has a 'good understanding' with Tanguy Ndombele
Memphis Depay is set to leave Lyon this summer on a free with his contract expiring on June 30, and Tottenham are linked. While the Dutchman is expected to join Barcelona, Spurs are reportedly in the mix – and the Tanguy Ndombele could help Spurs if they try to beat Barcelona.
Depay, 27, has been in excellent form once again – despite only recently returning from a long-term knee injury. Clocking up 22 goals, Depay has also laid on 12 assists in 40 Lyon appearances during 2020-21. But the Netherlands and Lyon skipper is now expected to depart.
According to FC Inter News, Tottenham and Inter are ready to offer Depay an alternative to Barcelona. It is believed Depay wants a three-year deal with the option of a fourth, earning around £83,000 a week – presumably after tax. So, Fabio Paratici might have a chance, when he takes office.
Back in 2019, Depay spoke about his relationship with Ndombele – with the duo having played together at Lyon. The ex-Manchester United star explained how he liked playing alongside the powerhouse midfielder, stating the duo have a “good relationship”. It might just helps Spurs.
“Tanguy is a wonderful character to have in the dressing room and I love him, me and him we have a good understanding of things,” Depay told the Mirror in 2019. “He has got speed, technique and strength which was the ingredients needed to survive. He is built to play in the Premier League.”
Depay – alongside Ndombele – could be just what Tottenham need, if Kane leaves
Harry Kane continues to be linked with a move away from Spurs. If he does go, which remains increasingly likely, then Spurs will need a big-name replacement for the England skipper. Depay is that man. Not only is he a top, top player, but he is a leader – and has the calibre of a superstar.
Whether it be releasing his own clothing line, producing his own music or simply scoring goals that has lit up Ligue 1 – Depay is a huge name. Signing him on a free would certainly soften the blow of losing Kane this summer.
