Tottenham are reportedly interested in raiding Leicester to sign winger Demarai Gray this summer with the English ace entering the final year of his contract – and Brendan Rodgers’ recent comments will encourage Spurs fans.
The Times say that Spurs are targeting the 24-year-old as their second summer signing, after the ‘expected arrival’ of Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Gray could be tempted, as he lacks game time at Leicester.
Just eight of his 27 appearances this season have come from the start – but despite that, he has scored three and created five more. It remains to be seen how much Leicester would want for the England Under-21 international.
The feeling on social media is pretty mixed from Spurs fans, but Rodgers’ comments from March will surely excite Spurs fans as the former Liverpool boss compared Gray to Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling.
“He has all the tools to play at the very highest level. If you look at speed, power, explosiveness, and technique, those are attributes he has. And he is a good lad,” Rodgers told the Leicester Mercury.
“If you are comparing him with a similar type of player, you are looking at a Raheem Sterling. These are the levels. He hasn’t been able to play as consistently as he would have liked but he is still a valuable player for us.”
TBR’s view – Lamela replacement – worth it?
The report states that said interest in Leicester’s £55,000-a-week star (Spotrac) has plunged Argentina international Lamela’s future into doubt at Spurs – with the former Roma winger approaching his eighth season at Spurs.
Lamela is renowned for his hard work, tenacity and determination – but he lacks in goals and the killer instinct. Gray boasts that kind of form in front of goal, both his own strikes and assists. Gray in, Lamela out, is good business.
