Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly one of a number Premier League sides interested in signing Bournemouth attacker David Brooks before Friday’s 5pm deadline – and Ben Davies’ comments from 2018 will excite Spurs fans over his potential arrival.
Brooks, 23, has been relegated with Bournemouth to the Championship and that has seen him leap onto the radar of numerous Premier League clubs. The Mail, though, claim the Cherries will only let the Wales international leave for a fee of £40million.
The report claims Tottenham are interested in the former Sheffield United star, but face competition from fellow Premier League big guns Leicester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton for the Bournemouth ace’s signature.
Back in 2018, Brooks’ Wales teammate Davies was asked if the winger had what it takes to replace Gareth Bale in the Wales squad – with the new Tottenham signing missing for games against Ireland in October 2018. He felt as though Brooks did.
“Gareth is a massive loss for any team. We’ll have to adapt,” Davies told the BBC in 2018. “He [Brooks] is a top player. He has a lot of ability and talent that defenders don’t want to come up against. We’ll have a good attacking threat in him against Ireland.”

TBR’s view – Would Tottenham be the best move for Brooks?
Brooks is a top player with enormous talent, but if he is to realise the enormous hype that surrounded his name before he suffered a long-term injury – then he needs game time. At Spurs, he might get some, but not an enormous amount.
The north London side have Erik Lamela, Son Heung-min, Steven Bergwijn, Lucas Moura and now the new signing of Bale. Jack Clarke could leave on loan, while Ryan Sessegnon already has – joining German side Hoffenheim.
Brooks would get the odd game but he would struggle for minutes, whereas a move to the likes of Everton or Leicester may hand the Welshman more of a chance on the pitch.
