Tottenham Hotspur reportedly want to lure goalkeeper Pau Lopez back to the club this summer from Italian giants AS Roma – and the Spaniard claimed, following his prior move to Tottenham in 2016, that it was a dream to join the north London club.
Spanish website Estadio Deportivo claim Tottenham want to sign 25-year-old goalkeeper Lopez. Since his failed loan move to Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino in 2016-17, Lopez has gone on to shine in both Spain and then Italy.
Breaking into Real Betis’ side, Lopez earned a move to Roma last summer and has since played 34 times for the Italian outfit – keeping nine clean sheets with Chris Smalling in defence. It is a far cry from his Spurs loan, where he failed to play even once.
The report states that Tottenham, Chelsea and West Ham are all keen on Lopez even for his tall price tag of £36million. Lopez told Tottenham’s official website after signing on loan in 2016, that it was a “dream” to play for Spurs.
“To play for a team like Spurs is a dream come true. I’ve dreamed of playing in England since I was a kid, but I couldn’t imagine I could play with a team like Spurs. It’s a great opportunit,” Lopez said four years ago.

TBR’s view – Lopez is surely too expensive for Levy
Even if the Tottenham chairman had £36million to spend on a goalkeeper – which is unlikely – surely Lopez is hardly worth the outlay? Given he failed to even play for Spurs only a couple of seasons ago, surely he is not worth a huge transfer fee now.
Yes, Spurs need a goalkeeper to bring competition to Hugo Lloris and eventually replace him. But Ajax stopper Andre Onana would be a much better option for Spurs, while Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan is also very good.
Lopez would be a good signing, if Spurs could engineer a move that is a lot cheaper than the reported £36million.
