Tottenham reportedly want manager that Ciro Immobile likened to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly battling Leicester City to raid Serie A side Lazio for manager Simone Inzaghi this summer, with the Italian out of contract in June – and Ciro Immobile has compared the gaffer to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Inzaghi, 45, is quickly emerging as one of the best up-and-coming managers in European football as he clocks up six years at Lazio – in which he is just three games shy of a whopping 250 matches as Lazio boss. But his contract is up this summer.
Corriere Dello Sport claim that Tottenham and Leicester are keeping tabs on Inzaghi – with Lazio president Claudio Lotito currently failing to meet his enormous contract demands. Inzaghi wants between £125,000 a week and £180,000 a week.
Tottenham and Leicester are keen on the Italian, and Lazio striker Immobile compared his manager to Liverpool’s Klopp back in April 2020. Italy international Immobile, who is in the form of his life under Inzaghi, worked under Klopp at Dortmund.
“Klopp is a great expert in football and I always said that I’d have liked to work with him when I was in my best form. He is a complete coach, he has everything,” Immobile was quoted as saying in April 2020, by Football Italia. “Having said that, he really reminds me of Simone Inzaghi, as they are very similar in their motivational skills, albeit in slightly different ways.
TBR’s view – Could Inzaghi bring Immobile with him?
Inzaghi would be a stunning Tottenham appointment for numerous reasons. Loyalty being one, given he has stayed at Lazio for six years now. Also, that he is an attacking manager – watching his Lazio side score almost at a ratio of two goals in his 247.
But another reason that Inzaghi could benefit Spurs is his relationship with some of Lazio’s players. Under Inzaghi, Immobile has taken his career to new heights – and is likely to be Italy’s starting striker this summer under Roberto Mancini.
So, Inzaghi could also help Tottenham in the window. Spurs could look to sign a striker with Carlos Vinicius yet to impress – and might even lose Harry Kane. Hiring Inzaghi might just tempt Immobile to chance his arm in English football.
