Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a surprise move to raid Celtic for midfielder Ismaila Soro this summer despite the Ivorian star struggling to break into the Hoops side on a regular basis – a player that admitted he idolised Didier Drogba.
Soro, 22, joined Celtic for a fee of just £2million in January 2020 (Scottish Sun) but only managed one appearance for the Hoops before the start of this season. During 2020-21, he remains second fiddle to Scott Brown, playing just 21 times.
That is why it is a bit of a surprise, then, to see Tottenham are looking to bring the player down south – a move which strikes similarities with that of Victor Wanyama. An ex-Celtic holding midfielder, who is also African, that joined Spurs.
The Daily Mail state that Spurs have identified Soro as a potential addition. Back in January 2021, Soro told Celtic’s official Twitter account in a Q&A video that Chelsea legend Drogba was his idol: “He’s very strong, he [scores] a lot of goals.”

TBR’s view – Tottenham can do a lot better than Soro
While Soro is certainly showing decent potential, he is well below Tottenham standard. Spurs need additions in the middle of the park, as cover for the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele.
But Soro cannot even get into a Celtic side that, right now, are not even the best team in Scotland. Spurs have got to look elsewhere for additions and might even be better off handing a chance to the likes of Harvey White of Jamie Bowden.
