Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly battling Liverpool for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa as the English centre-back continues to shine at Villa Park – and a recent report has claimed that the defender is actually a Spurs supporter.
Konsa, 23, has clocked up 20 Premier League appearances for Dean Smith’s side this season – shining alongside Tyrone Mings. His form has even suggested a potential England call-up, given he has helped his side keep 10 clean sheets in those 20 games.
Working under John Terry has clearly helped Konsa, a player who only left London to join Villa in the summer of 2019 – when the Midlands side paid Brentford £12million for his signature. The Athletic claim Spurs and Liverpool are interested.
This time last year, The Athletic ran a feature on London-born Konsa and within the article, it claims that Konsa is a Tottenham supporter – which might give Spurs hope in beating Liverpool to the player’s signature in the summer.
TBR’s view – Can Tottenham really beat Liverpool to his signature?
The thing is, when Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk fit again, any other centre-back is going to be second choice. When Liverpool have all of their defenders fit, Ozan Kabak, Ben Davies, Nat Phillips, Joel Matip, and Rhys Williams will all be back-up.
But at Spurs, Konsa would surely be first choice. Toby Alderweireld seems past his best, Eric Dier’s form is intermittent, Davinson Sanchez proved on Saturday he is error-prone and Joe Rodon is still learning. Konsa would surely start.
