Tottenham reportedly want £1.5m man that Mesut Ozil raved about

Tottenham Hotspur are one of five clubs reportedly interested in signing Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir ahead of the summer transfer window – and the Turkish stopper has earned praise from Mesut Ozil.

Bayindir, 23, has already clocked up 60 appearances for Fenerbahce since joining the club in the summer of 2019 from Ankaragucu. Yet to win a cap with his national side, he has been called up – and is now interesting clubs.

Turkish newspaper Fanatik have claimed that Tottenham are trailing Dutch side Ajax in the race for Bayindir – while German duo Schalke and Werder Bremen as well as French side Lille are also keen on the impressive shot stopper.

Tottenham’s interest comes weeks after Mesut Ozil went in the order direction, from North London to Turkey – and Bayindir earned praise from Ozil on Twitter following the latter’s debut in a 2-1 win over Hatayspor.

His Tweet has been translated as: “Incredible feeling to make my debut for Fenerbahce. Congratulations to the team, three very important points are ours. Special thanks to our goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.”

TBR’s view – Bayindir has got a bit of everything

Complaints made by Spurs fans against Hugo Lloris centre around the fact that he is not brilliant with his feet, struggles to come and collect crosses or set-pieces and of late, has made numerous errors when trying to make saves.

Bayindir is at the top of his game and is only going to improve. He is calm and assured with the ball at his feet, and at 6ft 6in, he is commanding from set-pieces. Against Hatayspor in the game he earned Ozil praise, he made six saves.

A good option for Spurs, if they can convince him over a move.
