Tottenham Hotspur look set to lose Christian Eriksen, either in January or in the summer. The Dane is out of contract at the end of the season and has shown no sign of signing a new deal in North London.

Reports in Spain overnight have suggested that Real Madrid will make a serious move for the player in January.

MARCA suggests that Real see Eriksen as a potential solution to their current midfield issues. Diario AS suggests that whilst Eriksen wants to do business next summer, to increase his signing bonus, Tottenham have slashed the price on the Dane to get a sale done in January. They claim that price-tag now sits at €30 million (£27m).

That is quite the climb down from Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy compared to previous reports.

The same publication reported in January that Levy had put a massive world record €250 million (£225m) asking price on Eriksen.

This was back when the Dane had 18 months left on his contract and was in good form. Even then, it seemed over the top but it was a sign that Tottenham were not willing to sell Eriksen at any price.

At that point, there was also hope that Eriksen might sign a new Tottenham deal.

However, a lot has changed in just a few months. Eriksen made it clear he wants to leave and his form has also dipped dramatically.

Whilst no Tottenham fans in their wildest dreams would have ever expected Real to pay £225 million on the Dane, selling him for just £27 million in January will certainly sting. But losing him on a free next summer might hurt even more.
