Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly planning to battle with Manchester United over Sam Johnstone.

According to Sky Sports, Spurs and the Red Devils are hoping to land the West Brom and England goalkeeper.

Antonio Conte reportedly wants more competition for Hugo Lloris, who recently penned a new deal at N17.

Pierluigi Gollini, Tottenham’s second-choice keeper, is on loan at the club and looks unlikely to stay beyond the summer.

Meanwhile, Johnstone will reportedly leave The Hawthorns at the end of the season once his contract expires.

The Sky Sports report claims the 6ft 4in ace has no intention of penning a new deal.

Johnstone’s club currently sits eight points adrift of the Championship’s top six with five games to go.

While promotion is still a possibility for the Baggies, there’s a lot of competition for a top-six finish.

And with Johnstone an England international proven at Premier League level, it’s not surprising he reportedly wants to return to the top flight.

“Ready for one of the top six clubs”

In January last year, Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle waxed lyrical about the 29-year-old in the Evening Standard.

“I really like Sam Johnstone, the goalkeeper at West Brom,” he wrote.

“I think he is ready for one of the top six clubs to go and get him.

“I’ve seen him four times this year and he has been outstanding.

“If West Brom can get out of the hole they are in, he could be the one to save them.”

It’s an absolute no-brainer for Spurs, and they’re currently in a better position than United, so they have a great chance of landing Johnstone.
