Tottenham reportedly offered Kyle Walker-Peters in part swap for Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Tottenham tried to use Kyle Walker-Peters in part of a swap to lure Aaron Wan-Bissaka to north London this summer, according to the Times.

They report that Tottenham were unwilling to match the huge money being demanded from Selhurst Park to land Wan-Bissaka, one of the players who kept Walker-Peters out of England’s Under 21 squad for the European Championship in Italy.

That’s why they apparently turned to Walker-Peters to try and sweeten the deal, but it hasn’t worked, with Wan-Bissaka looking all set to complete a big-money move to Manchester United.

The signs don’t look good for Walker-Peters at Tottenham, despite being a promising prospect in a position where their current more senior options aren’t that great.

Serge Aurier hasn’t convinced since arriving, while Kieran Trippier’s form has absolutely collapsed since the World Cup last summer.

Under a manager such as Mauricio Pochettino, who gives plenty of opportunities to young English players, Walker-Peters may reasonably have expected to have got a run in the team by now.

The fact he hasn’t – and that Pochettino is willing to trade him in for a player around the same age level – is a major indicator that he doesn’t seem to have much of a future in north London.

That’s slightly confusing – he should be better than Aurier at least, and Pochettino has a habit of filling his squad depth up with academy graduates rather than spending big, so Walker-Peters has likely not developed as expected.
