Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in a move for Sheffield United loanee Dean Henderson. That is according to a report from The Sun (print edition, 5/06/2020; pg 43) and The Mirror who suggest that Tottenham see him as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris, with parent club Manchester United reportedly wanting £22 million for the player.
Henderson has been in fine form for the Blades since joining the club on loan from United in 2018.
The man who sent him out on loan was current Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho. With David De Gea the established first-choice and Sergio Romero a solid understudy, Henderson needed to play regular football.
But, according to several reports, Mourinho never stopped keeping tabs on the player.
The Manchester Evening News reported in October 2018 that Mourinho had scouts watching Henderson in every game of that season so far as he started to build up a reputation at Bramall Lane.
According to ESPN, Mourinho wanted to take him on the club’s pre-season tour of the US ahead of the 2018-19 campaign. However, a headstrong Henderson made it clear he believed he needed a pre-season with a potential loan club.
With Lloris seemingly coming toward the end of his time at Tottenham, the England hopeful would be a smart move for Mourinho and Tottenham would be signing a more than able long-term replacement.
Time will tell if Mourinho ends up getting his man.
