Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Hakim Ziyech has been in the news recently and now Bleacher Report have highlighted the ‘one concern’ Spurs have regarding the Moroccan international.
The report claims that the Ajax star has ‘been discussed at board level’ and that a potential transfer offer will be considered over the coming weeks.
However, the London club are also aware that Ziyech may not come cheap. B/R claims that Ziyech had ‘a gentleman’s agreement’ with the Dutch side over a £26 million release clause last summer. It was that agreement which so nearly saw him join Italian side, Roma. However, no deal happened and such an agreement is no longer in place.

So it seems that Ziyech will not be as cheap as he would have been in the summer of 2018. The problem for Tottenham is that, in the same time, Ziyech has gone on to increase his value exponentially.

The 26-year-old scored 21 goals and assisted 24 last term as Ajax made the Champions League semi-finals. The midfield maestro already has 15 assists and six goals from 21 games this season and recently tore Chelsea apart at Stamford Bridge.
So Tottenham are likely going to need to stump up considerably more than £26 million if they want to secure his signature in January or next summer.
With prices genuinely higher in winter, Tottenham fans can probably expect the club to wait until the summer to make any deal happen for a player who could be a perfect replacement for the outgoing Christian Eriksen.
