Tottenham reportedly ‘following’ Aaron Ramsey, Jose Mourinho previously wanted him over Pogba

Tottenham are reportedly among the clubs tracking former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, according to a report from TuttoJuve.

It’s claimed that both Spours and Wolves are ‘following’ Ramsey, ahead of a potential summer move. The Welshman has made 16 Serie A appearances this season, scoring two goals. However, the competition at Juventus, coupled with his enrmous wages, mean he could be on his way eventually.

And TuttoJuve believe that Spurs are one of the clubs interested. Any move would be a big surprise in the main, given Ramsey’s obvious links to Spurs’ London rivals, Arsenal.

However, Jose Mourinho is a fan of the midfielder. Back in 2018, it was reported by The Sun that the then-Manchester United boss had identified Ramsey as a replacement for Paul Pogba. Indeed, the report claimed Mourinho had even told Ed Woodward he preferred Ramsey over Pogba.

Given how big a fan Mourinho is of the midfielder, a move may not be the most unrealistic suggestion of 2021.

TBR View: Ramsey a fine player, but how do Spurs afford those wages?

Any team looking to sign Aaron Ramsey would need to be able to swallow up a massive contract in terms of wages.

The BBC reported in 2019 that Ramsey had signed a deal worth £400k-a-week in Turin. Those mammoth wages would break any structure Spurs have, so any move would need to be considered carefully.

There’s no doubting his talent. But the Welshman might have to lower his current earnings if he is to seal a move back to England.
