Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly battling Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan for Sampdoria midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard ahead of the summer – and Spurs fans will be intrigued over what Christian Eriksen said to him earlier this season.
Damsgaard, 20, has already broken into the Denmark side and earned his first cap having become a regular at Sampdoria this season. The midfielder has played 22 times in all competitions, having a hand in six goals despite starting just 10 times.
Tottenham were linked in the January window and now Italian website JuventusNews24 have claimed that both Andrea Pirlo’s side and Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan are interested. The report also states that Sampdoria want £17.5million for his signature.
Given that he is being linked with a move to Tottenham, Damsgaard told TV2 earlier this season that after laying on an assist in a 2-1 win over Inter Milan, he spoke to Eriksen and the Spurs icon praised him for his creativity.
“We talked together after the match,” Damsgaard said after being pictured with Eriksen. “He praised me for the situation around my assist. He is a really nice person and really sweet to talk to. It was just nice that he wanted to talk to me.”

TBR’s view – Why Damsgaard would be a good signing for Spurs
Not only is he young and has plenty of resale value at the bargain price of just £17.5million, but the Dane offers enormous versatility. That is a trait that many consider priceless in the modern games.
Damsgaard, this season, has played on either side of the midfield, as a number 10 or even just as a central midfielder. While he would not start for Jose Mourinho’s side, he is the ideal player to have on the bench as can cover numerous positions.
At such a bargain fee and given his potential, he would be a good signing for Spurs, not least having earned praise from Eriksen.
