Tottenham report: Ndombele allegedly left upset after Carabao Cup omission
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele was upset after he was dropped for Harry Winks for the Carabao Cup final.
What’s the story?
Spurs struggled massively in the clash with Manchester City, losing 1-0 and failing to leave their own half. Four substitutions were made during the 90 minutes and none of them were the club-record signing.
A start would have been the £200k-per-week France international’s first in a major final.
In the weeks following the final, the midfielder’s performances in training were affected as a result of his omission.
He endured a poor end to the campaign and was subsequently left of France’s squad for Euro 2020.
Hard to criticise Ndombele
If the claims are true, it is hard to criticise Tottenham’s Ndombele for his poor showings after his omission from the Carabao Cup side.
The midfielder had undoubtedly improved over the course of last season. He was slowly becoming the stalwart midfielder Spurs bought from Lyon.
Earlier in the year, he was getting roundly praise by Jose Mourinho for his turnaround at the club.
There is no doubt Ndombele still has a huge amount of talent, and you feel as though letting him leave could be a mistake.
At just 24, he still has a number of years before he reaches the peak of his career.
But, if Ndombele’s mind is made up, it will be hard for Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo to convince the central midfielder otherwise.
