Kieran Trippier – 7

Dealt well with Alexis Sanchez, largely forcing him backwards rather than allowing him to cut inside and made his case to start ahead of Kyle Walker on a rare opportunity.

Toby Alderweireld – 8

Commanding in the air and on the floor, the Dutchman did not allow Olivier Giroud a sniff and worked well alongside Jan Vertonghen. Stood out as the leader at the back for the hosts.

Jan Vertonghen – 8

Solid defensively and had a rasping effort well saved by Petr Cech at the other end. Like Alderweireld, he won the physical battle up front and restricted Alexis Sanchez to drifting wide in his attempts to influence the game.

Ben Davies – 7

Quietly efficient, Davies rarely looked threatened and handled an anonymous Mesut Ozil well. Will certainly have had more difficult afternoons but did what was required.
