It was a close encounter at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, but Tottenham managed to narrowly beat Crystal Palace to keep the pressure on Chelsea.
This was seen as one of the tougher matches in Spurs’ run-in and it wasn’t easy against the Eagles, as they kept things tight at the back and threatened through the pace of Wilfried Zaha.
However, a wonderful strike from Christian Eriksen secured the three points for the visitors.
Here are how the Tottenham players rated against Crystal Palace…
Hugo Lloris – It was a relatively quiet afternoon for the goalkeeper, who was only called to make one save. His distribution and positioning were good throughout, but he did nothing to stand out on Wednesday. 5
Eric Dier – The centre back was impressive in the air, winning three aerial duels during the match. His passing has improved a lot this season, as he is now more confident with the ball at his feet and he was always looking for a positive ball to launch an attack from deep. 6
Toby Alderweireld – His positioning was good throughout the match as shown by his five clearances and one interception. Like Lloris, the Belgian did nothing spectacular, but he did what was required to help his side to another clean sheet. 6
Jan Vertonghen – The captain as arguably the best of the three centre-backs, as he won four aerial duels and completed five ball recoveries to restrict Palace to few opportunities. He was also confident in possession and crucial to the organisation of the team. 7
Kyle Walker – As usual, the England international was a constant threat in attack. He had two shots, two key passes and two completed dribbles at Selhurst Park. His pace and power caused problems down the right-hand side. 6
Victor Wanyama – The Kenyan was taken off at the interval to protect him from a potential red card. He was okay during his time on the pitch, but he was rash in the tackle and targeted as a result by the Palace attackers. If he wasn’t taken off at half-time, there was a very good chance that he would be sent off. 5
Mousa Dembele – He looked off the pace today and was taken off at half-time as a result. Like Wanyama, his aggression wasn’t harnessed in the right way and he was giving away too many fouls. 4
Ben Davies – The Welshman will have been disappointed at the weekend after missing out on a starting place at Wembley, but he responded in the right way with an excellent performance. In defence, he won five aerial duels and completed four tackles. However, it was in the attacking half that he was most effective, as he completed three key passes. Only Christian Eriksen completed more during the match. 8
Christian Eriksen – He is one of the more underappreciated players in this Tottenham team, but he showed his worth on Wednesday as he scored an excellent winning goal from distance. The Dane also completed four key passes at Selhurst Park, more than any other player on the pitch. 8
Dele Alli – The Englishman will have been keen to deliver a good display after winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award. His movement was sharp, but the ball didn’t quite fall for him on Wednesday. 5
Harry Kane – Although he didn’t get on the score-sheet, the England international was impressive as he ran tirelessly for his team. He won six aerial duels and completed four dribbles in what was a great forward display. Kane was a threat in the final third throughout and also managed to complete two tackles. 7
Son Heung-min – He wasn’t as sharp as he has been in recent weeks and his first touch let him down at times. Despite his work rate, he didn’t have the impact that his manager would have expected after bringing him on. 5
Moussa Sissoko – It was a hard-working performance from the Frenchman as he completed four ball recoveries and did his part to help dominate the midfield area. However, on the ball, he didn’t contribute enough and it is difficult to see him ever living up to his price tag. 5
Kieran Trippier – The Englishman only came on in stoppage time and therefore didn’t do enough to earn a rating. N/A
