Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey in the latter stages of the January transfer window.

According to David Ornstein and The Athletic, Spurs are among the clubs that have made clear their admiration for the Villans midfielder.

As well as Tottenham, Bayern Munich have apparently expressed an interest in Ramsey.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are said to have gone further, making an approach for the 22-year-old.

Tottenham ‘one to watch’ for Jacob Ramsey

Now, Ben Jacobs has provided an update on the reported Spurs target’s future on GiveMeSport.

The CBS journalist suggested that Tottenham are ahead of Bayern in the race for Ramsey.

He believes the player would prefer to stay in the Premier League and that Spurs are “one to watch.

Jacobs also said Ramsey is a player Thomas Tuchel “likes and knows very well”.

However, he still feels the Bavarians are “less likely to bid in the final few hours of the window”.

“I think that Tottenham are one to watch,” wrote Jacobs.

“I’d be surprised on the Bayern front because my understanding has always been that the player would prefer, ideally, to stay in the Premier League.

“Bayern can’t be discounted because they haven’t signed Kieran Trippier, along with one or two others, at this stage. That means there is a little bit of money to spend.

“But, at the moment, I think they would be less likely to bid in the final few hours of the window, even though it’s a player that Thomas Tuchel, in particular, likes and knows very well.”

Tottenham emerge as suitors for Jacob Ramsey in latter stages of January transfer window

Tottenham have done well in the January transfer window, bringing in two top players in Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin.

Although things have slowed down on the Spurs transfer front, the last few days of the transfer window may well see a flurry of activity in the market.

Ramsey has been crucial for Villa this term and Unai Emery is understandably unwilling to lose him mid-season.

However, as per The Athletic, Villa must raise funds before the end of June to stay compliant with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

This has apparently alerted suitors for Ramsey, who believe offers above £50million will at least be contemplated.

Let’s see what happens in the coming days. Tottenham would be getting an outstanding talent in Ramsey if they can get a deal over the line. But never rule out Bayern.
