Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola.
Parisfans claim the 26-year-old was proposed to the north Londoners as a potential successor for Hugo Lloris, and that he has no future at the Parc des Princes.
Areola is currently out on loan with Real Madrid, where he is playing backup to Thibaut Courtois – he’s made 10 appearances so far in 2019/20.
PSG are keen to find a permanent buyer for the World Cup winner, and Parisfans also state that Tottenham’s bitter rivals Arsenal are also ‘a possibility’.
Areola has appeared 107 times for the PSG first-team, but will struggle to add to that tally with Keylor Navas and Sergio Rico two solid goalkeeping options.
He has a contract until 2023 with the club, but PSG supposedly offering Areola would suggest a potential transfer would not break the bank.
TBR’s view – Life after Lloris
Areola would be a decent signing for Spurs, who do have to be thinking about replacing Hugo Lloris soon.
The stopper is 33 now and probably doesn’t have too much longer left in north London – his current contract has just 18 months remaining so perhaps he’ll leave when it expires.
Paulo Gazzaniga hasn’t always convinced in Lloris’ absence and so a case can be made for Tottenham to target a new goalkeeper.
Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Areola is a much more imposing figure than fellow compatriot Lloris.
Despite that big frame he is impressively agile, suggesting he could be a strong replacement for Lloris who is well known for his superb reflexes.
