Tottenham now working on sending 24-year-old player to the Championship after ‘disastrous’ loan spell

Tottenham are reportedly working on sending Japhet Tanganga out on loan to the Championship after being recalled from Augsburg.

The 24-year-old centre-back joined the Bundesliga club on loan in the summer, yet the move proved to be an ill-fated one, with Tanganga not making a single appearance for the German side.

Now back in north London, the defender’s future is up in the air with Tanganga’s contract due to expire in the summer, yet Tottenham seemingly have a plan in place.

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham are working on a loan deal that will see Tanganga join a Championship club having endured a ‘disasterous’ spell with Augsburg.

Tottenham have been hard at work sending a number of academy prospects to the Championship this January, with Ashley Phillips and Alfie Devine both joining Plymouth Argyle on loan.

Whilst no club has been specified, Tanganga heading out on loan to the Championship is arguably something that should have happened in the summer, with Tottenham now paying for their mistake.

Tanganga was once viewed as one of Tottenham’s most exciting academy products, with the defender previously showing quality and potential that made fans extremely excited for the future.

However, injuries and poor decisions from Spurs’ transfer team have now lead to Tanganga essentially throwing away the last few years, and this loan move could be it for the centre-back.

With the defender’s contract expiring in the summer, Tanganga has one last shot to convince Tottenham that he could have a future at the club, and the 24-year-old will want to impress wherever he ends up this month.
