Tottenham now reportedly want to sign £26m midfield powerhouse likened to Vinnie Jones

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat in recent weeks.

La Repubblica recently claimed that Spurs are preparing to make contact with Fiorentina over a potential move.

Tottenham reportedly came close to signing Amrabat in Antonio Conte’s first transfer window in charge.

In the end, Spurs landed Rodrigo Bentancur, a signing that many will agree worked out very well at N17.

Now, Tottenham may well look to add to their midfield ranks with one of the World Cup’s breakout stars.

Amrabat helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the tournament in Qatar.

Though the Atlas Lions sadly fell short against the mighty France, Amrabat shone against the likes of Kylian Mbappe.

Indeed, the 26-year-old delivered what some have described as ‘the tackle of the tournament’ against Mbappe.

In the 51st minute, the Frenchman surged down the left flank and got himself into a dangerous position.

However, Amrabat weighed in with a perfectly-timed tackle and even kept the ball in play.

‘He did everything’

Speaking on Optus Sport’s World Cup GegenPod podcast, former Australia international Tommy Oar said: “That tackle just embodies everything that Morocco have been about this whole tournament.

“They’re putting their bodies on the line in every moment and fighting for every inch and I think that tackle summarises that.”

Meanwhile, Leeds United cult hero Michael Bridges compared Amrabat’s tackling to former Premier League hardman-turned-Hollywood-actor Vinnie Jones.

“It’s not the first tackle he’s made this tournament where I’ve gone ‘that is almost Vinnie Jones-esque’,” he said. “Not scared of getting a yellow card.

“He was absolutely brilliant, he did everything against Mbappe. When I saw Mbappe rolling around, the replay was brilliant because he got absolutely smashed – but fairly smashed.”

Tottenham would do well to land Amrabat, as he looks like he’d fit in well in the Premier League and add a lot to the Spurs team.

In addition, it has been reported that Fiorentina want at least £26m for him. Not exactly a bank-breaking sum for Tottenham.
