Tottenham now reportedly trying to sign 'extraordinary' 24-year-old likened to Edgar Davids; Paratici a big fan
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly rekindled their interest in Weston McKennie ahead of the January transfer window.
Spurs have been linked with the Juventus midfielder on a number of occasions over the past 18 months or so.
Now, with the January window on the horizon, it looks as though Tottenham may be plotting another potential move for McKennie.
On Thursday, Italian journalist Enrico De Lellis told CMIT TV that Fabio Paratici has been following the player.
Now, Gazzetta dello Sport and Calciomercato – via Sport Witness – have added to the speculation.
The former claimed that, if McKennie fails to impress in the coming months, Juve ‘could decide to sacrifice him in January’.
This would help them bring money in the coffers, as they need around £19million to buy loanee Leandro Paredes.
Meanwhile, Calciomercato claimed that ‘interest from the Premier League’ persists.
And Tottenham are named ‘above all’ other potential suitors. This is as Paratici ‘once again’ looks to his former club for new signings.
“Could be a new Gattuso”
McKennie has been labelled ‘extraordinary‘ in the past and is highly rated in Italy and in his home country.
American legend Alexi Lalas, who has watched a lot of the midfielder over the years, lauded his compatriot.
He said in an interview with Tuttosport: “He (McKennie) could be a new Gattuso, who (ex-Juve boss Andrea Pirlo) played with the original and knows how important it was for the balance of that Milan.
“McKennie has something of Gattuso, but also of Kante and Vidal. As they say here: Beauty and the Beast.
“Beauty and the beast both serve to win. And McKennie, as well as a conqueror of balls, also has excellent skills in the construction of the game. And with his head he is always dangerous on inactive balls.”
On Twitter, fans have compared McKennie to the likes of Arturo Vidal and Edgar Davids.
