Tottenham now eyeing ‘dominant’ defender who’s just as quick as Micky van de Ven

Tottenham are looking at the market for a new defender and could end up making a move for German star, Jonathan Tah.

Ange Postecoglou has seen his side riddled by injury problems this season and a new defender is thought to be high on his January wishlist.

Micky van de Ven sustained a serious problem earlier in the season and is not expected back until at least January time.

And according to Kicker, Tottenham’s search for a new centre-back has pointed them in the direction of Bayer Leverkusen defender, Jonathan Tah.

Tah, 27, has been linked with a move to England one more than one occasion in the past but is impressing more than ever this season. Leverkusen are top of the Bundesliga under Xabi Alonso and a number of their top stars are wanted.

£15m could be enough to get a deal for Tah over the line and in modern day monies, that’s simply nothing to the big clubs in England.

Tottenham and Tah suit each other

We’ve all seen how important the speed of Van de Ven was for Tottenham this season before he got injured and Tah is not far off being of similar ilk.

The Bundesliga website records Van de Ven as hitting a top speed of 35.97kmh/h last year, while this season, Tah has very nearly hit that mark himself with a speed of 35.81km/h.

That sort of speed would be massive for Postecoglou in how he sets his team up.

Alongside Cristian Romero at the back, Tottenham need players with speed and the ‘dominant‘ Tah would be a solid solution to their issues.

Spurs are doing well under Postecoglou and given the time he’s been there, things have turned around a lot.

But they do need more strength in depth and adding a defender like Tah would be a massive help.
