Tottenham now expected to sell 23-year-old in the summer

Oliver Skipp is reportedly set to be one of the players who leaves Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, with Ange Postecoglou likely to continue his overhaul of the squad.

Spurs have been one of the stories of the season so far. Ange Postecoglou has guided Tottenham into the Premier League title picture. And there have been impressive performances all over the pitch.

In the middle of the park, Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr have been exceptional. With that, it is easy to forget that neither player particularly stood out during Antonio Conte’s tenure.

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has fallen down the pecking order, and made the majority of his appearances from the bench. And it has been a similar story for Oliver Skipp.

Skipp recently made his 100th appearance for Tottenham in all competitions. However, the 23-year-old has never quite been able to establish himself in the side as a key man.

There is no question that Skipp has a lot of potential. But Spurs have elevated themselves to another level. And thus, his task is only getting harder and harder.

And writing in a Q&A for The Times, journalist Gary Jacob suggested that the academy graduate will be one of those to make way in the summer amid interest in Conor Gallagher.

“Tottenham’s midfield is changing. By the summer Skipp, Højbjerg and possibly Lo Celso will be gone,” he said. “Then it’s Bentancur and Bissouma, Sarr and Maddison. The latter two are the attacking one. So they would be short and maybe needs a player who can press and break a line.”

Midfielder now needs to get career going away from Spurs

It is a shame to hear that Skipp is likely to be moved on. Ultimately, he has never let the side down when he has played. But it does appear that he would potentially benefit from heading elsewhere in the Premier League.

Three league starts this season should not be enough for him. So it may be that a move this summer ends up suiting all parties, as disappointing as it would be to see him leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
