Tottenham must not repeat mistakes of the past and rush Kane back from injury

Tottenham talisman Harry Kane’s return from injury is progressing ahead of schedule, as reported by the Evening Standard.

They report that Kane was set to be sidelined until March, but is confident he can be back sooner having recovered from similar injuries on previous occasions.

Kane has apparently been away having some warm weather training in the Bahamas and will return to ball work this week with designs on accelerating his return to help a Spurs side that keeps soldiering on and getting results despite being stretched to its limits by an injury crisis.

But while it must be tempting for both the player and his manager Mauricio Pochettino to get that recovery done as quickly as possible, it’s important that Kane isn’t rushed back too soon.

Last season, Kane was hurried back from injury when he came off the bench in the 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, just as Spurs were beginning to get used to playing without him in the side.

It took the England captain a long time to get up to speed – he looked like a player rushed back ahead of schedule – and the knock-on impact was a slight loss of fluidity.

As well as that, Kane lost sharpness midway through the World Cup and looked absolutely exhausted at the start of this season too.

As important as Kane is to Tottenham, it’s important that he is allowed proper time to recuperate and catch a breather as well.
