Ahead of the summer transfer window, a host of clubs from the Premier League and the Championship are interested in Swansea City’s Dan James.

According to Wales Online, Tottenham Hotspur are among the sides interested in the Swansea winger, who has lit up the Championship.

But over the past two transfer windows, we have seen Tottenham linked with players from the Championship, only to ignore them.

It seems that Mauricio Pochettino is not keen on signing second-tier players. According to The London Evening Standard in December, Pochettino does not think Championship players would improve his team.

This saw them miss out on James Maddison and Jack Grealish last summer. Maddison has thrived at Leicester City, while Grealish’s stock has risen at Aston Villa.

And in January, Spurs were linked with Jack Clarke and Jarrod Bowen but Pochettino was unconvinced by both (London Evening Standard).

But Pochettino needs to shrug aside his doubts about buying young players from the Football League. After all, Dele Alli is the example of a success story.

As clubs inevitably circle around speedy winger James, Tottenham must ensure they do not miss out.

The Wales international is an exciting young talent and has all the ingredients to become a Spurs star in the near future.

Tottenham should abandon their policy of not signing Championship youngsters and make an exception for the 21-year-old starlet.
