Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks has hailed Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish.
Spurs will begin the new Premier League season by welcoming newly-promoted Villa to their home and will be looking for three points.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will have to prepare for Villa’s talisman Grealish, who has been a target for them recently.
According to Sky Sports, Spurs made a £25million offer for him last summer and were prepared to reignite interest this summer if his side didn’t secure promotion from the Championship.
But the report details that the 23-year-old will now reject any potential further advances from Spurs and stick with the Midlands giants for another season.
Winks could be in direct competition against Grealish on the opening day of the season and is well aware of his threat, with the duo playing together with England at youth level.
“I’ve played with Jack for England and he is a good friend of mine. He’s a very good player and someone who can win a game on his own so we’ll have to be wary of that,” Winks said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Grealish is going to be a key man for Villa in their hunt for survival next season and everyone is eager to see if he’s ready to make a serious impact in the Premier League, as he’s looked on fire at times in the Championship.
Spurs should be delighted with their opening fixture and a chance to get an early win, but will need to keep an eye on the English playmaker that will shoot on site.
Villa’s biggest strength lies in midfield with their energetic trio of Grealish, John McGinn and Conor Hourihane.
It will be up to the likes of Winks and Moussa Sissoko to outclass them on the ball when the teams meet.
