Tottenham midfielder Gedson Fernandes should get chance against RB Leipzig

Tottenham recorded a 1-1 away draw against Burnley on Saturday evening in the Premier League and that leaves them four points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the table.

Dele Alli’s second-half penalty cancelled out a Chris Wood opener at Turf Moor and Spurs will now turn their attention to a Champions League showdown against RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.

The North London outfit lost the first leg of their last 16 tie 1-0 at home to Leipzig, meaning they have it all to do on their trip to Germany to progress to the quarter-finals.

Manager Jose Mourinho will have a big headache over his team selection for the European fixture and one man that should come into his plans is Gedson Fernandes.

Fernandes was overlooked as an unused substitute at the weekend against Burnley and he would be completely fresh to add some extra creativity plus steel against Leipzig.

The 21-year-old has only started one of his eight appearances since he joined Spurs in January on loan from Benfica and is still yet to show his best.

He is a box-to-box central midfielder that is crying out for more opportunities and his recent cameo suggests he can help improve a team that is now on a run of five matches across all competition without a win.

The Portuguese playmaker gave an impressive display in the FA Cup fifth round exit to Norwich City despite missing his penalty in the shootout and has the ability to drive forward on the ball.

Mourinho should seriously consider a midfield trio of Harry Winks at the base, with Fernandes and Giovani Lo Celso either side of him.
